Did You Know Fabric Apps Are Coming to Power BI Pro and PPU?
Native Power BI reports have always been read only and limited to the visuals Microsoft allows and the feature they believe is correct. You slice, filter, drill. You do not write back, you do not accept input, and you do not keep shared state between users.
Fabric Apps changes this, and Microsoft just announced it is not reserved only for those with Fabric SKUs but also for Power BI Pro and Premium Per User customers!
And how do you build it? Rayfinn and AI, off course.
A fabric app should always start with a trusted semantic model. Describe the app you want in plain language, give a quick preview, make a small edit, and then publish.
The result? A beautiful application that can accept user input, keeping a shared state across users, supports operational workflows and allows for a more unified company application. When the app outgrows its creator, developers can take it further without a rebuild. After all, we all have our expertise.
For finance teams, the obvious use cases are inputs for KPIs, forecast adjustments, commentary collection, and approval workflows. The kind of process that currently lives in Excel, e-mails, or a stitched-together combination of forms, SharePoint lists, and pen and paper.
However, is the power in Power BI available yet? Unfortunately NO, the Pro and PPU route is not yet available. Microsoft announced that it’s entering preview "in the coming weeks" and said Pro and PPU customers will get Fabric Apps and Fabric Database capabilities at “no” additional cost, but with its own limitations.
Currently there are uncertainties on the actual requirements, and the given information does not yet match Microsoft's own documentation, which still lists a Fabric capacity as a prerequisite.
Until Microsoft updates the documentation to reflect the Pro/PPU path, treat this as a commitment to verify, not something you can use today.
If you are on Fabric capacity already, Fabric Apps has been in preview since June 2026 and is available now. F0, once it arrives, could also be a practical way to test Fabric Apps without committing to a full reserved SKU.
Worth watching. The direction is clearly right and gives even more opportunities to get the most out of your data estate!.
